Font on Signs in Cilurnum Roman Fort

Recommended Posts

Bradford Wollte

The buildings in the Roman Fort at Cilurnum (Chesters, Northumberland, England) are labelled with signs identifying their former purpose ("Commandant's House", "South East Angle Tower" etc.). What is the font used on these signs?

Unfortunately I can only find two samples, both of low quality, but the font seems to be similar to the font used on other plaques labelling Roman monuments in Northern England and Scotland (see images).

It's a Square Roman Capital font and the nearest I have gotten to it is Trillium Solid from House Industries. It's close but not exact, the capital W is off by a stroke.
