1970-1993 United States Postal Service Logo

Recommended Posts

The insignia was designed by pioneering industrial designer Raymond Loewy.  It was adopted in 1970, possibly as part of the Postal Reorganization Act signed into law on 12 August of the same year.  This version of the postal service logo is sometimes known as the "Standing Eagle."  It would be replaced by the current "Sonic Eagle" version in 1993.

I would be grateful just to find the name of the typeface, but a digital version would be helpful as well.

Almost certainly lettering, not a typeface.

It bears some resemblance with various glyphic/flared sans serifs (like Optima, but Optima’s bolder weights are more contrasted).

For something similar, a couple of examples could be Chianti or Publicala.

Thank you for the reply.  I was beginning to suspect much the same, but I thought it best to put it before the collective expertise here before concluding as such.
