Identifying old indy car race car number font for race car restoration project

I am helping create some replica race car graphics, but I am hoping someone can help me identify a font that is fairly close to the numbers on the nose of this Indy Car that belonged to Parnelli jones of Indy Car.

Unfortunately, racing car numbers don’t always correspond to typefaces used for print and digital work—they are often custom affairs.

The 9 is a Clarendon style, but the 8 is not, which further suggests that your sample is custom.

Kazimir Black is similar, as is the Google webfont Ultra.

You could also mix and match Clarendon Black (the nine) and Koala Bold (the eight) to replicate the look.

Thank you for the advice! I think I am able to adjust these shapes closely enough to satisfy the need.
