What is Demibold?

Recommended Posts

Guest

I was downloading fonts with multiple weights and numbering them using the Frutiger numbering system. Then I noticed there was a weight known as 'Demibold' for quite a few of them. What is it? I always thought it was just Roman -> Medium -> Bold. Where does Demibold come into the picture here?

Font weight naming conventions aren’t very standardised, and that’s one of the reasons behind Frutiger’s classification system.

In any case, demi-bold, or semi-bold, usually refers to a weight equivalent to medium, or between medium and bold.
