Member Kat…
Greetings! :) I am newbie looking both to identify this font and to find something that approximates it for us in a print format; probably since this journal was typeset the match will only be (very lol) approximate. I don't know exactly why but I just love looking at it and reading it. Also, the second image is from a very recent (and presumably not type-set) academic volume (2017) - I also like this font and find it somewhat similar. Maybe that 2nd font - whatever it is? - might be a good candidate. Thanks for reading and any insight you may have! Cheers! ~katz Link to comment
Member Kev…
The first sample is some form of Modern/Scotch Roman. That particular style of 2, however, only survived in the italic, not the roman version of most digital forms of those typefaces. 2 Link to comment
Member Kat…
Thanks! Any suggestions on a family of fonts or particular font which is available and that has that "look" - I know this is probably quite subjective. P.S., is the second sample type-set? It appears to have been published in 1972 - though it was printed in 2017. Link to comment
Member Kev…
The second sample appears to be Century Oldstyle. 1 Link to comment

Member Kat…
Thanks so very much Kevin! I LOVE that Scotch Modern - it has that gorgeous Greek font too, which will come in handy. Many, many thanks! Link to comment
Member Ale…
Possible design matches are Didot / Theano and Old Standard, the latter two with open licenses (free to use or alter for any purpose). Sources / information for Didot / Theno: Collection of both with samples Theano: [1] [2] [3] Old Standard: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] To me Old Standard seems like a match for your first sample, with its narrower letter forms. 1 Link to comment
Member Ric…
Based on the straight leg of |R| and the splayed serifs of |E|F|T|, of the latest suggestions, the best match would be Theano Old Style, only available in regular. Link to comment
