Body font for Fell Type headers?

Recommended Posts

Grotesk

Hi

I am looking for a serif font for body text that goes well with Fell Type headers. I am thinking about antiqua style fonts. I've been trying out Adobe Caslon Pro regular with Fell Three Lines Pica and Fell Great Primer Pro. But I am searching for alternatives. It should be pleasant to read. And I think antiqua fonts with a crescent apex on upper case A suits Fell Types late 17-century types.

What about this style offered there for 12,5 pt?:

DE WALPERGEN’S PICA

Do you want to use such an oldstyle imperfect but elegant and playful font like the other Fell fonts? Or are you searching for a clean one fitting to this age when the Fell Types were created? And what do you miss at Adobe Caslon? (I think there are so many possible antiquas that you should provide us with some more goal leading advices.)

Arno Pro or Minion Pro: two contemporary Renaissance typefaces.

Thanks @R::bert and @Fournier

DE WALPERGEN’S PICA has to much character for body text, the quirks will be in the headline only.

I basically like Caslon. Maybe I should create a different thread about Caslon. But Adobe Caslon can sometimes look black. I can be wrong about that. Don't have a good reference right now. And some upper case letters looks a bit wide.

Arno Pro and Minion Pro are very nice, maybe too streamlined:

They both lack the Caslon style of capital C.

I've also been looking at Indigo.

But not totally sure about the square endings, for example lowercase a.

Okay!

Did you already check Caslon-Fonts of other foundries and alternatives like Sabon, Garamond Premier Pro, Janson, Agmena or Fleischmann?

Yes, some of them.

Thanks for reminding me of Janson. But there are many different versions of Janson. What are you favs?

Monotype Janson is a bit quirky, I wonder how it looks for long printed texts. Agmena almost has to much character, but I would have to make a test print.

Kis looks promising, clean but with a old school touch.
