Looking for this "Great Indian Pacific Railway" font (one of several)

Featured Replies

This is an example of typography on a "Great Indian Peninsular Railway" locomotive and the large "Great Indian Peninsular Rly" text in this poster from the early 20th century - possibly 1918 onward.

I know from research that the company used several fonts; in fact I can see that even the fonts in the graphic of the locomotive and in the main "Great Indian Peninsular Rly" text are not the same.  I would be happy to identify either.

My purpose is to design lettering for scale models so I am looking for a digital version.  Ideally I would like to find a free digital font but if necessary I would consider buying a font.

These aren’t fonts, they are lettering and handmade signs (look, for example, at the four different |N|s).

That said, there are a number of digital typefaces (in a wide range of prices and quality) modelled after this kind of lettering, and even foundries specialised in this kind of recreation (two that come to mind are Letterhead Fonts and Greater Albion Typefounders).
