I agree with Ralf "ugly" means it looks amateurish like a scribble. Probably someone simple auto traced there handwriting. Nisko there are literally thousands of wonderful, beautifully crafted scripts typeface available these days, created by professional designers. Checkout the picture I have attached.

You'll find a lot of typefaces are free to download - or the fee to licence them is tiny.

What I'm looking for is to simulate actual handwriting to address envelopes.  Fancy script doesn't work.  I agree the poppsie font is rather ugly - but if there are other free hand fonts out there - there might be one that works for me.  How do I find freehand fonts?  Thank you.

“Handwriting” would be a search term that works. For example here:

Make sure ligatures (standard/contextual) and contextual alternates are turned on and check which of the fonts have letters that connect properly through these automatic OpenType replacements.
