Font Used in Opening Credits of Antonioni's 'La Notte' (1961)

Hey, 

I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the font(s?)/type used during this title sequence of La Notte. It's a really beautifully shot film, give it a watch if you haven't already.  

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Looking at how the same letters change from slide to slide, it’s almost certainly lettering.
