I'm looking for the typeface used in the bulk of this logo, minus the custom heart of course. If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

I think it's two different ones. First line looks like some of many versions of Caslon, second line ('AMPIRE') like version of Caslon Antique.

Sorry for the insanely-long wait, but I eventually got around to trying Caslon, and overall I'd say it's about an 80% match at best. The letters are either too tall or wide compared to the font's default settings, which means they were artificially stretched by whoever designed the final logo. Changes were also made to many of the edge paths as well.

I can’t find a spot-on match for either line.

Agree with MissNobody that the bottom line is based on Caslon Antique and that the upper line is also Caslonesque, but has some squared-off serifs (base of the d).

Given the date of the movie (filmed in 1987, released in 1988), it is entirely possible that the entire logo is hand-lettered, using Caslon Antique and some other Caslon as a general reference.

There are many sources for fonts carrying the name Caslon.

My favourite Caslon is King's Caslon from Dalton Maag. Bet you were wondering. 😉
