Looking for the name of the font for the lombardic capitals appearing in several books - Little Magic Horse (1942), and The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, The Man in the Iron Mask (1953).

I’ve found a digital version called Light Unciale, by Manfred Klein, but I’m guessing that is not its original name.

In case anyone else was curious, the secondary text on the cover of Little Magic Horse is Raleigh Cursive, digitally revived as Redwood Pro by Canada Type.

Found it in Dan X. Solo’s The Solotype Catalog of 4,147 Display Typefaces as “Caligraph (Dundee) Initials,” aka Dundee and Dieter Caps.

Unfortunately, no luck identifying a foundry or designer yet, but it did appear to be available in metal and eventually phototype, so it was popular for a time.

According to this source, the original name was Calligraph (double l) Initials by American Type Founders (ATF) and released in 1941, though I don’t trust that date.

Further research has turned up samples as early as 1927 .
