Font identification: Artemisia Gentileschi, The Birth of Saint John the Baptist, c.1635 (Detail)

Featured Replies

Hi All

Bit of an odd one this one - we're trying to match x2 fonts from a detail in a painting by Artemisia Gentileschi, The Birth of Saint John the Baptist,  from c.1635.

We need to try and match the capital 'A' of Artemisia and then the 'rtemisia' as a separate font.

Obviously this was all hand painted so anything that is as close as possible would be great.

Thanks!

Christian

Thanks Kevin. Can you suggest any typefaces that DON’T have the rough vintage look? Keen to use typefaces that don’t have an old appearance.

Thanks for your help!

When people revive those kinds lettering styles, they tend to bake the “aged” look into them.

Tribute might work for the “lowercase.” Brioso (using the swash capitals and the capitals) has a similar overall vibe.

Thank you so much Kevin. Fantastic work as ever!
