Font identification: Luigi Pignalosa Playing Cards - Naples, 1875

Featured Replies

Hi

Another font we need help recognising. This is from a Pack of Italian Neapolitan Playing Cards pattern by Luigi Pignalosa, Naples, 1875  - currently in the British Museum.

The font we're keen to find something along the lines of is for the words 'Luigi Pignalosa' - particularly the shapes of the 'A' & 'L'.

It can feel slightly distressed or letterforms can be sharp and clean.

Thanks!

Christian

Thanks Kevin but none of the options are quite doing the trick - any other examples you could point us in the direction of? Appreciate this example isnt typeset but want something that has a good match to the 'A' especially.

Thanks Riccardo but we’re looking for something a bit weightier and with less gothic looking. Something classic but that has details like the ‘A’ downward points

Christian, the list of 48 options that Riccardo shared with you is about the only online resource that might help. Unfortunately, that style of letter A was popular more than a century ago, and simply isn’t found in many digital typefaces available today.

Primitive Tuscan is likely too bold and unrefined for what you are seeking.

Thanks Kevin but I’m only seeing  x1 option from Riccardo - Abelard?

See the “1 of 48” and the arrows above the yellow bar below?

Open the link provide by Riccardo, click the right arrow to move through the options, then when you get to the end of the list on the first page, click on “next page” and repeat the process until you’ve gone through all 48.

Some of the styles won't suit your needs, but others might.
