1613 English typeface in Witchcraft Publication?

Featured Replies

Hello community! I am looking for an id for the font used in this publication on witchcraft from 613 in England - 'Witches Apprehended, Examined and Executed'. Any help and /or pointers for fonts available which closely match much appreciated!

In that era, typefaces rarely had names as they do now. And British printers of the time often imported type from other countries (primarily Holland). The first British type foundry of any repute is credited to William Caslon more than a century later, in 1720.

Van den Keere is somewhat close, and is based on sources of that general era.

Depending on what you wish to do, there are "antiqued" variants of several similar typefaces available for use in recreating typed copy that looks "old." Some are better than others.
