Hi - I am trying to identify the font shown in the image. It is from the hub of a carriage built by J A Lawton & Co between 1880 and 1900. Of particular note is the ampersand which unlike this & is very angular. Many thanks in advance!

No font used. It’s just lettering created for this purpose.

Thank you for the input. Do you know of a font which is similar and which uses a similar “&”?

Because what you posted is an example of hand lettering, you’re not likely to find a match in a typeface—at least not in a single typeface.

For the block lettering, try: Alter, Don Corleon, Acetate

For the ampersand, which is runic or even blackletter in style, try: Killviners, Baby Baby, Sunburst

Also similar in details (except for |&| of course), if a bit too bold: Valley.

Less similar, but with a wide range of widths and weights: Industria Serif.

Vaguely in the same vein (including the ampersand this time): Lenorah.
