Mid 18th century British type, post-Caslon

Featured Replies

Hello, first post here! I'm a brewer who's interested in historical brewing texts (there's more than you might think!)

I am wanting to get into bookbinding as a hobby with some new found financial freedom, particularly printing and binding out of circulation historical works. But I'm struggling with this one. It doesn't really fit Caslon or Fell, and it's too early to be Baskerville (it doesn't match Baskerville anyway) but seems to be related to that style of serif typeface.

The book was published in 1762 in London, printed by a J. Haberkorn if that's of any use at all. The specific publisher is not actually named. I've included screenshots of the Caslon specimen and some example characters from the work. Thank you in advance!

I've actually started recreating this type in FontForge on the basis that it probably doesn't exist in digital form anyway, but I'm asking in the hope that someone might recognise and identify and I can then fill in the gaps where this book hasn't used certain characters, rather than just estimate them.
