Title font "Das Blatt der Hausfrau", 1948, Austria

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for the typeface used as the title font for the home and fashion magazine Das Blatt der Hausfrau from 1948 (I have a copy from that year—there were other title fonts used in different years, but those aren’t what I’m interested in here). This issue was published by Ullstein Verlag Wien and was most likely printed at the Waldheim-Eberle printing house. As far as I understand, it was not offset-printed, but letterpress-printed. I photographed the lettering shown here from my copy.

I’m looking for a digital version of this font, or one that’s very, very similar. The lowercase “a” and “r” in particular should match the original. Alternatively, I’d also be interested in images showing additional characters.

I’d like to use or recreate this font for a logo, and I’m primarily looking for the uppercase “C,” but also the lowercase “p” and “i". I know you can figure them out to some extent from the existing material, but I’d really like to see the shapes that actually belong to the font.

If anyone here can help, I’d be super grateful!

In any case, best regards to all of you!

Mau

Hello Ralf, thank you for the quick reply! Yes, I had also already suspected that the swashes on the uppercase “H” couldn’t have been set as individual glyphs. Inside the magazine, there is another version set differently, where the type is printed with a hatched shading, but the letterforms (the upercase “H” is different here) are otherwise the same. That made me hope that there might still be a fully designed typeface that served as the basis for the lettering of the title.
