Can anyone help me identify this 1920's era font?

Featured Replies

Hi. I'm hoping someone here, can assist me in figuring out what this font is, from a 1920's publication. It seems to be similar to an Arts & Crafts, or Deco style. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Paddy, if you look closely at the repeating letters (the Cs, the As, the Rs), you’ll see that they don’t exactly match one another.

The type on this book cover was hand drawn, not typeset—a fairly common practice at the time.

I haven’t located any close equivalents among digital typefaces, though Grand Central by Font Bureau has a similar vibe.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm not surprised that this might have been freehanded. Your suggested "Grand Central" is a fairly close match. I also found that "Goudy Old Style", and "Letraset Carlton", are runners up. What I really like is the the outline with coloured infill style, which I haven't yet found anywhere. I suppose a graphic artist/designer would be able to revise this font to that spec. ( I want to use the sampled style for my new business name/logo.

Patrick
