5 Hole Paper Tape

Before the 7 bit ASCII character set became a dominant computer encoding in the 1960s and 1970s, 5 bit encoding on paper tapes was a common way to save and exchange texts and programming code. Professor Brailsford explains how this worked for the the Computerphile YouTube channel.
