Anatomy of Typography - SHOULDER

Recommended Posts

Hey all! Just a quick question. What letters have shoulders? Usually 'n', 'm' and 'h' are mentioned as examples (sometimes 'r' too, or is it an ear/hook?) but are there any more letters that have shoulders?

If we define “shoulder” as the attachment of a (curved) stroke to a stem, then also most letters with a bowl will have shoulders |b|d|p|q|Þ|, &c.

If it applies also to uppercase letters, I would leave to more knowledgeable persons and to better English speakers than me.
