Was Anziano Pro based on a classic typeface?

Was Anziano Pro based on a classic typeface? I really like it but it only comes in (3) styles. It looks very familiar to me and yet I cannot find a modern font that has the same subtle serifs. Is there another font out there that has a wide variety of weights? I looked at Weiss but its not quite what I am looking for.

According to this description, it was initially inspired by Weiss, but its designer—Stefan Hattenbach—didn't want to turn Anziano into a revival and went his own way with the design.
