Doing a bit of home office archeology, I (re)discovered an old CD-ROM that was a sampler from somewhere. It included 100 TrueType fonts, and small collections of photos, bitmap images, and vector graphics for use as clip art. The date on the CD is 1994.

 

One of the fonts is named Basset. It is a nicely clean serif typeface. Does anyone know anything about it or what it was intended for? Would it be suitable for setting body text for books?

 

Not the rectangular/oblique Basset. The one I'm asking about may be named Basset regular.

I think this is a (questionable) version of Baskerville.

Thanks. After doing a comparison, I believe you are correct. They are certainly close enough that I'm not going to bother installing Basset on my computers, since I already have four versions of Baskerville installed.
