I'm looking for a font with this glyph: the maltese cross (UID: 2720).

What operating system do you have? It’s available in a couple of system fonts like Arial Unicode MS, Apple Gothic and Zapf Dingbats. A free family with it would be DejaVu. 

Also, commercial fonts on MyFonts.

Finding support for certain characters is actually very easy on Mac OS. 

1. Find the character you are looking for and copy it to the clipboard. 
2. Open the Mac OS character palette and paste it in the search bar. 
3. A list of installed “alternative fonts” will show up and you can click on each symbol to see the font name.
