Help with kerning

Featured Replies

Hello

There is something wrong with the kerning of this word, Curartor (not a typo). But I can't seem to put my finger on it. Is there anyone who can give me some hints or help with this? It looks like Replica, but with a modified 'C'. It just doesn't look right.

Thanks

The first thing I notice is that the |C| looks out of place (too light, wrong shape, not enough bottom overshoot).

Regarding spacing, I think that it would be fine for continuous text, but it looks off for a logo.

In my personal experience, spacing for readability is all about consistent whitespace, while spacing for logos and such is more about relationship between adjacent elements and the overall shape of the word.

Thank you for your reply Riccardo. Could it also be that we know the wordshape of the word curator, and that we don't expect the extra 'r' in there, so it looks off because of that?

Hello, this is a revised version, The 'C' has changed, slightly reduces the space after the 'r's' and sliced the top of the 't' to match the angle of the 'C'

I wouldn’t do that. It feels out of place, since those angular stroke ends are nowhere else in the visible lowercase letters.

That surely can add to the dissonance.

But at least it introduces some correlation between the |C| and the lowercase. Besides, it’s fairly common for the |t| to have a “steep roof” even when other letters show less acute angles.
