Educational Video Channels

The ATypI or Association Typographique Internationale (the International Typography Association) is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to typography and type design. The primary activity of the association is an annual fall conference, held in a different global city each year. Recordings of interviews and the conference talks are regularly posted on YouTube. 

Ellen Lupton is a writer, curator, and graphic designer. She is director of the Graphic Design MFA program at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, where she also serves as director of the Center for Design Thinking. As curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum since 1992, she has produced numerous exhibitions and books. PrintingFilms.com was established by Doug Wilson (director and producer of Linotype: The Film) in order to preserve the visual history of printing, typography, journalism and graphic design by digitising and making available old industrial films.

Each week, TypeThursday founder Thomas Jockin reviews two fonts to reveal the considerations and approaches of different typeface designers. With these discussions, you can expect to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of typography. 

The Type Directors Club is an international membership organization welcoming everyone who is devoted to excellence in typography. It holds an annual typography and design competition and provides scholarships to encourage the next generation of type designers. The Continuing Education Department of The Cooper Union, in conjunction with the Type Directors Club, offers a Postgraduate Certificate in Typeface Design. Industry professionals lead a highly focused and comprehensive study of key typeface design principles: technique, technology, aesthetics, expression, history, and theory.
