Matt Le G Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 I'm looking for information about the above type. It features on the spine (only) of an old copy of Mirabeau the Demigod by: William Rutherford Hayes Trowbridge Published by T Fisher Unwin, 1907 Ideally if it exists, I would like to know the designer and name. Any information would be useful. I'm at the early stages of research into similar typefaces so in addition, any historical or contextual information about this or similar condensed display type utilising sharp serifs from this time period would be very useful. Many thanks Matt
Kevin Thompson Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Matt, book cover design of that era mostly employed custom-lettered typography, not typefaces—at least for the larger display type. Vaguely reminiscent of Romanisch and De Vinne, styles which inspired modern interpretations like Grand Central.
