Rapaz Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 We are busy with the renovation of a whole neighbourhood build in between 1920's and 1930's. The photo is one of the remaining huis number plates. We would like to use the same font to get new plates made but I cannot find a font that looks like this one. Till now the more similar one I've found is Bodoni but the serif is too straight. The one of the photo have an old-type serif. It is for a big project so a paid font is not a problem. Characteristic for this font (and what I'm looking for) are the ball terminals, the old-type serif and the straight inside of the bowls on the 3.
Ralf Herrmann Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 This was likely hand-drawn or made using stencils, which do not match fonts as we know them today, which are based on letterpress/print fonts. https://typography.guru/journal/why-there-isnt-a-font-behind-every-letter/ If money is no issue and you have some more pictures, it would be no problem to have someone digitize the figures as they are.
Kevin Thompson Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 What Ralf said. You also could edit something like Century Expanded, Monotype Century, or Worldwide Headline to approximate your sample.
Rapaz Posted October 7, 2020 Author Posted October 7, 2020 Thanks a lot both! Those are great options.
