Thanks so much Kevin, I've been searching for it for weeks and couldn't nail it down, did you just recognize it?  I found the "slab" on the 'j' to be a defining feature that I kept looking for, but with no luck.

The only complete letter in the sample was the a (once I cleaned it up, I could see it had a distinctive counter shape). That proved to be the key.

I then drew in the missing part of the curve at the top of the letter, and matched it from there.
