chiollagh Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 The Peel City Guardian (1882–2001) was a weekly newspaper in the Isle of Man published in Peel in the west of the Island. It changed its masthead font in 1900 from a Gothic face to these two fonts, one used from 1900 to 1917, and the other from 1918 onward until the paper's closure. The early 1900s saw the Island involved in the Pan Celtic movement and the revival of the Manx language and expressive culture, which is one of my research areas. To me at least this seems to be a rebranding of the paper with the masthead having a quasi-uncial feel to it and so a participation in this movement. The identification of the fonts would be a help in this regard as to whether that assumption can be made or not. Stephen
