JV_Journalist Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I'm trying to determine the name of the typeface used by The Australian newspaper (Australia's sole national newspaper) during the mid-2010s for their article's body text. I've attached a screenshot of an article from April 25th, 2015 - I hope its enough? Thank you! Letters spell honour for Palmer © The Australian 2015 https://theaustralian.com.au/termsconditions
Bjørn Edvard Torbo Posted April 2 Posted April 2 It's definitely a transitional serif typeface. It's actually pretty similar to Times New Roman, but a wee bit beefier and a big difference is that the lowercase t has a straight ascender. The overall impression is that the descenders and ascenders are less prominent (than in TNR), giving the effect of a slightly larger x-height. Also, the angles on the serifs are a little less slanted. 1
Solution Ralf Herrmann Posted April 2 Solution Posted April 2 Seems to be the current version as well: Times Classic, a current/custom version of Times. https://housestylegraphics.com/typefaces/times-classic-a-bespoke-typeface-for-the-worlds-iconic-newspaper/ From the font credits: Quote An exclusive typeface designed for The Times newspaper by Dave Farey and Richard Dawson of HouseStyle Graphics Limited, under the direction of David Driver, Art Director and Dave Wadmore, Assistant Art Director. 2
