CN1 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Hi all, Can anyone help identify this font used on a book about the composer Stravinsky? Really struggling to find something that matches closely. Any help or thoughts would be very much appreciated! Many thanks!
CN1 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Hi Ralf, its from the book Igor Strawinsky [Stravinsky] by Armitage, Merle (Editor); Weston, Edward (Portraits). Published in New York: G. Schirmer, 1936
Ralf Herrmann Posted April 9 Posted April 9 The thin letters are probably hand-lettering turned into a printing block just for this book.
CN1 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Thanks Ralf - what would you consider to be the closest typographic match that we could use?
Ralf Herrmann Posted April 9 Posted April 9 If you run the image from your first post through the WhattheFont service, you get some pretty good results.
CN1 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Thanks Ralf. We tried this but felt there wasn't anything that was close enough. Which typeface would you recommend as the best match?
Ralf Herrmann Posted April 9 Posted April 9 What’s the goal? For something like a reprint, I would just digitize the original design. If you just like the overall look for an unrelated project, it would be a matter of taste which of the similar designs suits your needs. That’s why I didn’t want to pick.
CN1 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 No problem. Thanks Ralf. We’ll aim to create a digitised version.
Ralf Herrmann Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Let me know if you need someone with a type-design background to digitize it. 😉
Kevin Thompson Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Mark Simonson's Mostra Nuova Thin has a very similar vibe, and with a bit of tweaking could approximate your sample.
