brainiac Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 The captions in this image appear to be rendered in a bitmap font on a crt monitor from May 20, 1990. It’s from the Hubble timeline website to be found at https://hubblesite.org/contents/media/images/1990/04/1-Image.html?news=true Can anyone please identify the original font? Also looking for a digital version. Commercial fonts are fine. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
Riccardo Sartori Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Most likely a custom font built in the machine they were using. There are plenty of recreations or original designs that mimic that pixel/bitmap/terminal/raster look, but possibly none that would be an exact match (examples: [1]; [2]; [3] here you can also make your own). A similar one, but constructed on a smaller grid, could be Pixel Tandysoft (low bar on |G|, seriffed |B|D|, but wrong |O|).
