TypoJunkie Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 This topic was imported from the Typophile platform Hey there! I've been trying to find info on the Web regarding the correct amount of space (kerning) between uppercase letters (as in a full word set in uppercase). I remember my tutor at University saying that 25 in InDesign or 40 units in Quark was about right. I'm not even sure there is a 'right' amount of space, or if it depends on how much text there is (no kerning if it's just one word, plenty if it's a full sentence, etc.). Or if it depends on the typeface. Thanks in advance! Antonio
Luma Vine Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Definitely depends on the face, as well as size, application, personal preference, as (almost) everything. :)
Riccardo Sartori Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 correct amount of space (kerning) between uppercase letters (as in a full word set in uppercase) That would be spacing. Kerning is applied between pairs of letters. Nitpicking aside, I second what Luma Vine said.
Nick Shinn Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Some foundries build in extra all-cap spacing, via the OpenType feature.
TypoJunkie Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 Sorry about the mixup Ricardo… I meant spacing; Illustrator threw me off. And thanks to all that have replied. Sadly, the fonts I'm using are not on OpenType.
