chrisburton Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 This topic was imported from the Typophile platform I was curious to hear what others think on using a display face for body text (web font)? If it renders remarkably well, is it wrong? The typeface in question is Kulturista. Click here to see it in use.
Frode Bo Helland Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I doesn’t look horrible. An alternative might be Ibis RE from Webtype. Btw, make sure you check the Apple rendering as well!
chrisburton Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Will do and thank you for the alternative recommendation. However, I think Adelle Light might be a closer fit.
Frode Bo Helland Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 The suggestion is due to quality. The RE series is pretty solid. If Kulturista works, use it!
chrisburton Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 My apologies. I think what I was getting at is if using a display face for text type is "frowned upon". I guess you're right, if it works, use it.
hrant Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Like death, screen rendering can be the great equalizer... Kulturista might be hard to use to print a book, but it clearly renders onscreen in a very texty manner. And what people call something certainly doesn't affect how it works. hhp
dberlowgone Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 The thing about text fonts on the web is that if you look at one size/resolution/rendering combination, and say "It works", you don't work.
chrisburton Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 In my defense, I wasn't relying on just the font-size or the rendering alone. It was a combination of looking for a typeface that complimented my logotype and also the typeface of my headers. I believe these are all important factors to make that decision. What I said above might have come across as ignorant.
dberlowgone Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 No, you are doing fine. I think maybe you/we were misled by the classification of this face for display and not also for text, which works well in most browsers.
chrisburton Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Thank you, David. I appreciate the feedback.
