chrisburton Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 This topic was imported from the Typophile platform Am I wrong to think it should be "type" when I hear/read "Web Typography"? Or even when others refer to Typography when it comes to the typefaces on a site?
Ralf H. Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Do you have an example of this “wrong use”? Typography IS choosing and using fonts, so there is nothing wrong with talking about web typography, as long as typography and type are not used as synonyms.
Frode Bo Helland Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Or “we had a typographer design a custom font for us”.
chrisburton Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Ralf H. Typography IS choosing and using fonts So essentially a Typographer is a person who chooses typefaces? If that were the case, isn't everyone a "Typographer"? At least anyone who goes into Microsoft Word and chooses a typeface.
Ryan Maelhorn Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Technically in today's computer world, yes. Of course you could always consider anyone who owns a pipe wrench to be a professional plumber too.
chrisburton Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Haha. Well that certainly clears things up on my end. Appreciate it, guys.
oldnick Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 you could always consider anyone who owns a pipe wrench to be a professional plumber too Ryan, you are living testimony to that proposition…
