FontForge defaults to Unix conventions for T1 fonts: AFM/PFA or AFM/PFB. AFM-to-PFM conversion utilities exist. @Pablo – As much as it sounds like kvetching, much of it was information I needed. I found I was two subversions behind on Fabrik, for fanen! Edit 1: The Fabrik TTFs I have (from a fresh download) have 570–571 kerning pairs, according to my .fea (OpenType feature file) dumps. Their instructing, however, is very limited. The AFM does not contain various Windows-specific info that goes into a PFM, such as menu names and style linking. Link to comment

Such distributions could be converted to PFM+PFB with the now absent Adobe Type Manager (ATM). I know of no utility or simple method under current operating systems for the average consumer to do this? (I.e., someone without FontLab and technical knowledge of how to copy the .inf info into the font manually. Hmm. Heck, have it printing while the gallery and it’s now a performance. Throw in a bit about your troubled childhood, feminist theory, public versus private space, being comfortable in your own skin, and use the phrase “in and of itself” a lot and you’ve got an MFA thesis. Possibly a Canada Council grant too. You have single-handedly contributed far more to this thread then I thought possible from the entire community. Please keep it up. I am actively following (is that an oxy-moron?). (you could also do it on the green striped paper and talk about the environment and sustainability. Tape the end of the long piece of printer paper to the beginning to form a giant loop and now you can talk about infinity &c.) Link to comment

I've recently downloaded and am trying to classify the GhostPCL fonts which URW++ donated to Artifex software under the free Aladdin license. They don't seem to be as widely known or disseminated as the 35 "core GhostScript" fonts similar donated by URW++, but they provide open source implementations of some very nice faces. Mostly they seem designed to fill in some of the gaps in the PostScript v3 core set when taken together with the GhostScript fonts. However, I'm having trouble clearly identifying one or two... and I'm not entirely clear on the distinction between some of them. The name in "quotes" is the family name stored in the font file. "A028" (this looks a lot like Albertus but I think it's slightly different... does anyone know for sure?) "A030" and "NimbusSanL" both appear to be Helvetica clones, which seems oddly redundant. Is there a distinction that I'm missing? "AntiqueOlive" (Antique Olive, obviously) "ArtLinePrinter" (actually, this seems to be an original Aladdin Software creation, not URW's work at all) "CenturySchL" (Century Schoolbook implementation) "ClarendonURW" (Clarendon, only Bold Condensed weight included) "Coronet" (Coronet) "Dingbats" (Wingdings clone) "GaramondNo8" (this is a rather nice Garamond, but I'm not sure if it's an original URW interpretation or not. At least, I can't perfectly match it up to one of the well-known Garamond designs that I've looked at.) "LetterGothic" (Letter Gothic) "Mauritius" (Mauritius) "NimbusMonL" and "NimbusMono" are both included (both Courier clones). Again, what's the distinction? "NimbusRomanNo4", "NimbusRomanNo9", and "NimbusRomNo9L" (three apparent Times New Roman clones. In fact, there are subtle differences between the three, but does anyone know what the justification for each one is?)
