gbynum Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I am looking for a (hopefully free) TrueType or other Windows compatible face where there is no ambiguity in character appearance. All I need are the upper case, lower case, and numbers. In particular, O, 0; 1, l, I; 2, Z; 5, S. I have no preference for serif vs. non-serif. I'd PREFER that 0 and Z be slashed, and S have extended serif-like "extensions". The closest I've found is Tahoma in the Windows standard fonts. What are others I should look at and from what sources?

gbynum Posted April 10, 2019 Author Posted April 10, 2019 I'm a retired engineer who is frustrated with ambiguity. My first task will be a file of my various passwords for my wife to have if I die before her. I'll probably use it in various Office (Libre and MS) applications.
gbynum Posted April 10, 2019 Author Posted April 10, 2019 Riccardo, I agree that is a typical application for my wishes. The dozen or so that pop up in your link meet some of my wishes, but none slash the Z and only 1 slashes the 0 ... although the center dot is sufficient. Also, none gives the "tails" on S to minimize confusion with 5. Think of algebraic equations 2Z+5S where handwritten looks somewhat like 22+55 for example.
oobimichael Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Maybe Gintronic by Mark Frömberg, sold via https://bboxtype.com/typefaces/Gintronic/#!layout=specimen 1
Riccardo Sartori Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 2 hours ago, gbynum said: none slash the Z and only 1 slashes the 0 I count at least four slashed zeroes, and in some cases (most notably Input), you can choose between dotted or slashed zero versions. Anonymous also has a seriffed |S|. Not in the list, but perhaps of interest: PT Mono. As for slashed |Z|, unfortunately I can’t recall any non-calligraphic typeface with such a feature.
gbynum Posted April 11, 2019 Author Posted April 11, 2019 Thanks for all of the input. I'm going to stick with Tahoma which meets 99% of my wants and is almosy universally supported.
