philcao Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 This topic was imported from the Typophile platform Hi, I'm doing a project in Typography class about the tyepface Ibis, by Cyrus Highsmith of Font Bureau. I was wondering if anybody knew where it is or has been used? I haven't had much luck finding this. Thanks for your help
jasonc Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 at the risk of sounding obvious, have you contacted Font Bureau? They have a pretty extensive gallery on their site, and might have a database of fonts in use to help you. Jason C
philcao Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Good idea, I did just that and found that it was used on the FORTUNE magazine logotype. I'll email Font Bureau now and let you guys know how it turns out. In the mean time if anybody knows a usage off the top of their head I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again!
Riccardo Sartori Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Here as a web font: http://kupferschrift.de/cms/
kentlew Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Correction: It was used as the basis of the current Fortune logotype. As explained in this blog post, Highsmith modified his Ibis starting point a fair bit. So, that’s not a pure example. Highsmith has written a short book on type fundamentals, due out this summer, the text of which we set in Ibis Text, but that probably won’t help you in time for your class project.
nina Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I don't know if you only need big/highly visible projects, but FWIW I've recently used Ibis Text as the secondary typeface in the branding of a little actuarial consulting outfit here in Switzerland (photo), together with Breuer Text – one of my favorite new-found pairings.
Indra Kupferschmid Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Ibis RE – the webfont version optimized for small sizes – is also used on the Edible Vineyard website and fontbureau.com itself. And all over my operating system (you can get Ibis RE for desktop use, too).
philcao Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 Awesome! Thanks everyone for the input, this has been incredibly helpful
Té Rowan Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 IMAO, Ibis looks so hot on these cards, @nina, that were you to show this image about, FB would fersure find themselves swamped with orders for it.
