Moseph Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 This topic was imported from the Typophile platform Hello All, Looking for a web font that is similar to Gill Sans/Johnston but designed for screens and specifically without the lower-case l that looks like I and 1. I have looked at Agenda and pretty much like it, but am curious if their are other faces in this style that should be considered. Thanks -Moe
PabloImpallari Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Cabin maybe?http://www.impallari.com/cabin/ Also available at Google Webfonts
Ryan Maelhorn Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Just found out about Gill's kids and dog... Kind of hard for me to want to use any of his fonts anymore...

J. Tillman Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 How about Lato?http://www.latofonts.com/
Moseph Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Thanks Pablo, Cabin is some nice work! While looking around I also found Lato which looks like it might work for me. Ryan, I had no idea about Eric Gill's personal life. That's really messed up. That way overshadows gripes about him copying Johnston!
Moseph Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Haha, thanks Tillman, you beat me to it!
Ryan Maelhorn Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 You may find this older Typophile discussion of the matter interesting, or not... Yeah, probably won't read that. I wish I could erase this information from my mind actually. But I do appreciate it.
Thomas Phinney Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Gill didn't copy Johnston, they were collaborators and worked on the Underground typeface together in its early stages of development for quite some time. IIRC, Johnston wanted to give Gill joint credit, but Gill said not to worry about it.
