  1. “For its third book, Letterform Archive is proud to announce Only on Saturday, a stunning tribute to Jack Stauffacher, a letterpress printer, typographer, and designer whose elegant and innovative type treatments cemented his reputation as one of the best printers of the twentieth century.”
  2. Ralf Herrmann

    Virgin Wood Type

The Virgin Wood Type Manufacturing Company has been carving end-grain maple into type since 2010. They offer pantograph-cut wood type in a variety of font schemes and sizes. The typeface selection is a growing combination of designs from original American Wood Type patterns, revived and redesigned victorian faces, and brand new faces never before cut into wood. In addition, Virgin Wood Type offers simple shapes, calendar fonts, and unique catchphrases, and is always open to custom projects.
  3. Greg Ruffa

    The Art of Wood Type

330 pages filled with the history of alphabet, the anatomy of the letterform, and how wood type was made. Personal stories from artists, typographic designers, the new uses of wood type in printing from two university professors, and the story of the world’s largest collector of wood type, Leo Kaplan, the Grandfather of the wood type collage and Dave Greer, the largest collector of rare wood and metal type. The book is not available in stores, but can be ordered via [email protected]
  4. The retirees of Hamilton Wood Type share their stories of how wood type is made and what it was like to work at the largest maker of wood type in the world. The video was directed and edited by Hamilton volunteer JP Porter of Shoot the Moon Productions.
