    An en is a typographic unit, half of the width of an em. By definition, it is equivalent to half of the height of the font.

     

    Dutch: pasje
    French: demi-cadratin
    German: Halbgeviert
    Italian: quadratino, (en)
    Polish: Półfiret
    Portuguese: en (meio quadratim)
    Spanish: medio cuadratín

    Dutch typesetters refer to it as 'pasje' and not 'half vierkant'…
